How to Deploy an Outdoor Surveillance Solution

When implementing a video surveillance project in a residential neighborhood, several important points must be taken into account in order to successfully deploy our solution.

On this article, AirLive will be explaining the issues related to the bandwidth needed for each camera.

Each viewpoint needs to be allocated the “right” air borne space to be effectivelly transmitted from the client to the monitoring center. This is determined by calculations that must be kept in mind for this kind of developments::
According to the compression methods, the values in the table are the exact numbers. In this regard, it should be noted the difference between H.264 and MPEG-4, since this pattern compresses much better than the MPEG-4. Based on these specifications, then we have a real idea of the bandwidth required for each camera.

Alternatively,  the user can also get his own calculations by means of AirLive application that can be accessed on the following link: http://fs.airlive.com/firmware /NVR_DiskCalculator.zip

There are several factors that influence the calculation:
1) Resolution of each camera
2) Frames per Second (FPS)
3) Compression Method

Importance: if the camera supports H.264 compression, it is recommended to use it because it is a more advanced method for video compression. Below is a comparison chart of compression methods:
After this first step, you have determined the actual bandwidth required and the amount of each camera, but then another key point to be considered is the calculation of the WiFi connection According to the mode of operation, we get a different throughput. Here's an example (based AirMax5N)

These statistics are essential to calculate the maximum bandwidth that is available from a link as their distances and modes of operation. This is the calculation to be done:
- Number of cameras in possible link = (Throughput available x 50%) / bandwidth needed for each camera

Example
- Throughput of link Static Turbo mode within 1 km: 45 Mbps
- Bandwidth required for each 1 Megapixel camera with 30 FPS: 4.18 mbps
- Number of cameras in possible link = (45 x 50 mbps%) / 4.18 mbps = 5 cameras

Throughput is obtained from the above table, the required bandwidth of each camera, through  the AirLive NVR Disk Calculator. Finally, the factor 50% is always used in the link between two computers as a buffer space to cover  events that might affect and reduce the performace of the link (for instance weather conditions).
Now with all these values in hand, it is possible to install an outdoor surveillance project in a more effective manner, no matter if it is a point-to-point or a point-multipoint deployment.

WiFi in Argentine hotels

One of the problems with the Wi Fi is the actual performance in public places or establishments that provide Internet service as an added value. For example, in hotels, users often require higher performance and better network coverage Wi-Fi to connect with their notebooks or tablets. Usually it happens that the signal is unstable or slow and often not up to the new generations of devices.

Today, in addition, hotels and lodging places have lounges for holding events and conventions with the concurrence of many people, usually professionals. In the case of condo hotels, the facilities offer value added services like swimming pool, gym, meeting room, among other attractions, areas that also need to have Internet access.

The integrator Imssar those needs identified in Hotel Venezia (Mar de Ajo, Buenos Aires, Argentina) and apart hotel Mallak (Costa Azul, Buenos Aires, Argentina). Although both establishments offer different services, have a common need: to provide wireless Internet service in all areas of its facilities. But at the same time wanted to make sure that the signal from reaching the passengers and users without difficulty and with a performance that would allow them to access their devices without interruption.

At the Hotel Venezia, the goal was to provide Internet service in their rooms, Wi-Fi in the lobby, ballroom and convention and its three floors. For its part, wanted to install Mallak Apart Hotel WiFi in lobby, lounge, pool and 2 floors, with Internet service in rooms and internal network administration WIFI.
In both cases the models were chosen AirLive WN-220R and AirMax2. Both teams are 2.4GHz and have control of bandwidth, among other features.

WN-220R is a router plug and play (Camera AirLive) and responds to the demands 802.11b/g/n wireless. Provides up to 150 Mbps and 4 Ethernet ports for connecting additional devices both wired and wireless.
WN-220R supports several modes of Internet access, such as Static IP (Static IP), Dynamic IP (Dynamic IP, DHCP) and PPPoE. Moreover, with the installation wizard (included in the attached CD) connection takes a few minutes.
For its part, is AirMax2 outdoor wireless CPE which has been designed to meet all the requirements demanded by outdoor applications. The CPE enclosure is constructed of materials resistant to ultra violet (UV) and long exposure to sun and rain.
The radius of 11g / b of AirMax2 can provide up to 26dBm output power. You can even reach more than 4 kilometers using the integrated antenna.
Tests at the hotel found a good sign and an excellent range of Internet service to all sectors. Thus, the results were excellent in both installations. This will anchor the equipment (on the terrace of Mallak Apart Hotel is a AirMax2 anchored to a pipe extended, the other teams on interior walls). Previously tested the signal and fed individually to keep power.

Administrators luxury hotel Ayres de Mar Cariló wanted to provide its customers Internet access to reliable and stable. To achieve this, Emilio Macca recommended installing WL-5460AP, one of the most successful teams AirLive repeater mode to extend coverage in each hotel room.
In order to meet the demands of users and ensure good access to the Internet, the integrator Emilio Macca recommended to install a device in each of the 22 units owned by the hosting center, thus achieving optimum signal quality in all environments. WL-5460AP Access Point is the best selling AirLive. AP is a 802.11b / g with unique characteristics. The most important is undoubtedly its ability to operate in eight different ways of working.

With AirLive solutions and integrators the ability to solve the problems of connectivity, users of the hotels now have a Wi-Fi more robust, fast, interference-free and without packet loss.
All equipment chosen AirLive exceed the capabilities of similar solutions available on the market. At the same time confirm the commitment to provide high coverage wireless solutions, power adjustable and security.
AirLive wireless equipment include more features than other solutions and become an accessible, easy to install and highly reliable.

How to view IP camera via Internet

IP camera is a digital camera and based on internet. Of course, we can view it on the internet. We take the following network topology as an example.

WN-350R connects to Internet and gets two IP addresses, LAN IP and WAN IP.
On the LAN, each device will get one IP address from WN-350R so IP camera, OD-325HD, gets an IP address, 192.168.0.99 and your PC on the LAN gets an IP address, 192.168.0.100
If you would like to view IP camera on your PC on the LAN, just open browser and then, type “192.168.0.99.”
You will see Web User Interface to ask to enter account and password.

How to make wireless connection in a far distance

  1. Please prepare GPS, compass, Hi-Power Binocular and Walkie talkie
  2. Set up One Wireless Outdoor CPE as AP mode and the other Wireless Outdoor CPE as client mode.
  3. Use Google Earth to mark a line between two APs. It can be helpful to adjust the direction and alignment.

  4. Print the MAP and take the MAP to the point .
  5. Please use the compass to find the north and let the MAP north in direction of north.
  6. Please adjust CPE to face another point. Choose a landmark to be a goal if you can’t see the goal directly. Please make sure you have a clear line of sight between two APs. At least 60% of First Fresnel Zone must be cleared for acceptable performance.
  7. 2 people in a group. One does antenna alignment. The other reports the RSSI values until the antenna alignment is perfect.
  8. Use just enough output power. Excessive output power will create serious interference for everyone and reduce the performance.
