A Surveillance Interview with Dr. Albert Yeh
In a recent interview
in Poland, Dr. Albert Yeh, Vice AirLive Products Division, discusses the
proposed scenarios and challenges that new forms of surveillance and
monitoring.
-Upon returning to
their homes, people no longer need to touch the elevator button because the
same system automatically recognizes IP cameras. So will our future be?
- Currently, IP monitoring focuses on the recording and
registration of the images but in future the use of cameras will provide more
functionality. Very soon, they will become smarter solutions that analyze the
images and sounds perfectly possible to identify a person and with all the
capabilities to deploy the most appropriate action. For example, specify a
particular surveillance area in a work environment or, as in my home-state to
the elevator that stops on a particular floor or department welcome the turning
on the lights and electronic devices such as TV or coffee and even the bath and
shower.
Even warned that users consider the camera as a tool
whose capabilities can be exploited much by the right software. In addition to
technical capabilities, resolution and image analysis are becoming increasingly
important.
- What is the border
between the use of IP video surveillance technology for our benefit and safety
and the human right to privacy?
-The answer to the abuses of IP video surveillance
technology is to use appropriate protection systems, for example, encryption of
data streams that can not be intercepted and used for other purposes. This
depends largely on legislative actions and the existence of urban monitoring
projects for the information of violations, for example, vehicles traveling
wrong way or parking in unauthorized places. The technology creates many
opportunities for use, but the use of technology depends on people. Monitoring
systems will soon be autonomous robots that not only observe but also react to
events as they occur.
