A Surveillance Interview with Dr. Albert Yeh

In a recent interview in Poland, Dr. Albert Yeh, Vice AirLive Products Division, discusses the proposed scenarios and challenges that new forms of surveillance and monitoring.

-Upon returning to their homes, people no longer need to touch the elevator button because the same system automatically recognizes IP cameras. So will our future be?
- Currently, IP monitoring focuses on the recording and registration of the images but in future the use of cameras will provide more functionality. Very soon, they will become smarter solutions that analyze the images and sounds perfectly possible to identify a person and with all the capabilities to deploy the most appropriate action. For example, specify a particular surveillance area in a work environment or, as in my home-state to the elevator that stops on a particular floor or department welcome the turning on the lights and electronic devices such as TV or coffee and even the bath and shower.
Even warned that users consider the camera as a tool whose capabilities can be exploited much by the right software. In addition to technical capabilities, resolution and image analysis are becoming increasingly important.

- What is the border between the use of IP video surveillance technology for our benefit and safety and the human right to privacy?
-The answer to the abuses of IP video surveillance technology is to use appropriate protection systems, for example, encryption of data streams that can not be intercepted and used for other purposes. This depends largely on legislative actions and the existence of urban monitoring projects for the information of violations, for example, vehicles traveling wrong way or parking in unauthorized places. The technology creates many opportunities for use, but the use of technology depends on people. Monitoring systems will soon be autonomous robots that not only observe but also react to events as they occur.

- What is the current scenario? How is it possible to detect the use of IP technology is more popular?
-Today we are witnessing major changes. We are entering the "post PC", with new devices like smartphones. At AirLive we work in the design of cameras aimed at different types of mobile devices for easy access to data from anywhere in the world. In addition we will increase the capabilities of our software, with more analysis of the images. For example, you can monitor and know the number of customers present ina business or the volume of vehicles on the road, even be possible to assign actions like sending an e-mail or text message, if some event happens scheduled. In fact, our goal is to provide solutions that are useful for our users.

- Who are the most interested in IP surveillance systems?
-Currently, the main beneficiaries are the integrators that serve educational institutions and businesses, installing monitoring systems to ensure the safety of students or employees. Surveillance systems are also required including projects for government agencies such as urban surveillance to speed the intervention of the police in preventing crime. There is also an increase in sales to individual consumers looking for simple alternatives to secure their homes. For each of these applications have solutions and accessories.

-Earlier you said that we are entering the post-PC and awaits a world with tens of billions of devices connected to the Internet. Does this mean that there will be increased demand for network equipment?
-There are many phenomena that are changing the future of the Internet in the post-PC.
There is a dramatic increase in the number of smart phones, which translates into a high demand for bandwidth in mobile networks. 3G networks are not able to provide appropriate data stream. In the U.S., major players are moving away from the model offer unlimited access to the network, this mode of delivery has proved too cumbersome for infrastructure. However, demand for bandwidth will continue to increase, also due to the gradual popularization of services in the cloud. It is necessary to think of solutions to alleviate LTE (Long Term Evolution standard 3GPPstandard), for example, redirecting traffic to Wi-Fi hot-spots. The bandwidth of LTE is not alone sufficient to meet market needs. AirLive working on solutions for these networks, with a new Wi-Fi standard capable of delivering data at gigabits per second. For example, we will offer special bridges that connect local resources available in the cloud, minimizing the need to resort to external networks to access data that is stored there. In practice, these routers with built-in storage.

- What new devices being developed?
- The use of Wi-Fi is growing every second. We work in miniaturization to offer Wi-Fi router world's smallest it easy to carry and use, for example, in the hotel, where there is usually only a wired connection. The wireless network will use more and more devices, not just a traditional computer and smart phones.
In addition to the standard solutions for networking, we also have an interesting line of wireless accessories, for example, led to a transmitter that enables business users to upload images to the projector with four independent computers without the need to change the wiring.
